ROUTE 0.4.0- CLIMB TO TEIDE

Route 040, in Tenerife, a 30-kilometre route that goes from the 12 metres of Playa del Socorro to the almost four thousand metres of the peak of Teide, gives you the chance to challenge yourself on a route designed especially for lovers of sport and nature. A route “that you have to do once in a lifetime”, because it is not only a sporting and personal challenge – it is no small feat. overcome a difference in altitude of 3,812 metres, the largest difference in altitude in Spain and one of the largest in Europe– but also a leap into nature in its purest form, a different way of exploring the largest of the Canary Islands, discovering with every step or stride the essence of northern Tenerife, its landscapes, towns and people.

Water, fire, air and earth. The four elements of nature that the Greeks established to explain the construction of the Universe, which constitute the essential elements of our Planet Earth, are found on this Route 040: earth (the road), fire (the Teide volcano), air (“touching” the highest peak in Spain) and water (the sea)…

With a total length of almost 30 kilometres to the Pico del Teide and 53 kilometres when the descent is completed, Route 040 runs mainly through the municipality of Los Realejos, although it also goes into La Orotava. During its route it runs through the natural areas of the Protected Landscape of Los Campeches, Tigaiga and Ruiz, the Corona Forestal Park and the Teide National Park, to return again, in a reverse route, to the coast.

Its starting point is 12 metres above sea level and ends at 3,718 metres on the peak of Teide, the highest point in Spain, which means that its elevation is over 3,600 metres (3,812 m), a unique milestone in the entire country. It begins at El Socorro beach, in Los Realejos, and coincides with the PR-TF 41 trail.
